God's Love, Mercy and Forgiveness

God's Forgiveness

What would be a good message to start off this new year, 2012?

Here is a Scriptural truth which I believe with all my heart, and which I think is worth pondering throughout this new year:

We can't truly appreciate God's Love, Mercy and Forgiveness, until we honestly recognize our own sinfulness!

And here are a few verses to go along with it:

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Romans 8:38-39, KJV

"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."

2 Peter 3:9, KJV

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

John 3:16, KJV

"Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren."

1 John 3:16, KJV

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Romans 5:8, KJV

"Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him."

Psalms 103:13, KJV

"It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."

Lamentations 3:22-23, KJV

May you all have a productive, fruitful year in the Lord in 2012!

2012 - New Age Deception and Psychobabble

2012 New Age Deception and Psychobabble

Hello everyone. As 2012 rapidly approaches, and misguided and deceived New Agers begin their foolish countdown to December 21, 2012, I want to remind my Christian friends and acquaintances of a series I wrote some time ago entitled 2012 : New Age Deception And Psychobabble". As the title denotes, this is a three-part series which discusses the current hype surrounding the year 2012 and the New Age deception and psychobabble that has become associated with 2012.

Will December 21, 2012 mark the beginning of the end of civilization as we know it, or will it even herald the end of the world as some writers propose? What do the actual descendants of the Mayans -- who created the Mayan Calendar -- think about the current 2012 hype?

For answers to these and other questions, I encourage all of my friends to consider reading 2012 : New Age Deception And Psychobabble". You may be very surprised to learn what even the descendants of the Mayans have to say regarding the current 2012 hype.

Have a fruitful, productive 2012 for the Lord, and keep the oil in your lamps burning brightly!

Our New Canon PIXMA MG5320 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-in-One Printer - Very Cool!

Canon PIXMA MG5320 Wireless Printer

Very cool! Our new Canon PIXMA MG5320 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-in-One Printer arrived yesterday and it is more than I expected or bargained for! When I made this purchase on Amazon on December 21st, I assumed that I was just getting a simple printer that would allow me to print documents from my hard drive -- such as utility bills and such -- but it is so much more than that!

If you are wondering why I am so impressed by this printer, you need to understand that I have not purchased a printer in over eighteen years. The last one I purchased was a Texas Instruments PS23 Laser Printer -- an $800.00+ black and white laser printer -- back in 1993. So you can imagine why I find this new printer so snazzy.

While I haven't figured it all out yet, or even read much of the documentation that came with it, what I know so far is that it can do the following:

1. Print documents and photos -- in B&W or color -- from our hard drives across our residential LAN.

2. Scan images and documents and save them to my hard drive, which I can then share on the LAN.

3. Copy multiple documents and photos, just like a regular photocopy machine.

I set up a wi-fi network on my computer yesterday and tried for several hours to get the printer connected to it, but I failed. It is probably due to my lack of expertise in this area. So, instead, I followed the alternative method and connected the printer to our LAN via a USB cable that is connected to my computer.

Actually, I prefer a hardwired LAN anyway, as I have long believed that it is safer than a WPS-enabled network. Why tempt potential hackers in our neighborhood?

Printing with the Canon PIXMA MG5320 Wireless Inkjet Printer is so easy. It is just a matter of selecting "Print" under the "File" menu, and you are good to go.

For $100.00 -- plus $23.00 in shipping and a USB cable -- I must say that I am quite pleased. The Canon PIXMA MG5320 does so much more than my original laser printer, and at a fraction of the price.

BTW, I am using the printer with a 27" 2.8 GHz Quad Core i7 iMac with 8 GB of RAM. It is running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2.

It's a spiffy-looking little printer, and I highly recommend it to all Macintosh users.

F.B. Purity Web Browser Add-On Fixes White Space When Using Internet Explorer 7 User-Agent Trick to Hide Facebook Timeline Page Layout

F.B. Purity

Hello everyone.

Well, that has to be the longest title that I have ever assigned to a blog post. :)

I just wanted to let you know that I just found out that Steve has released a new version of his popular web browser add-on called F.B. Purity.

If you go to http://www.fbpurity.com/disable-facebook-timeline.htm, you will discover that one of the new features that Steve has incorporated into version 6.4.1 is a formatting tweak which fixes the large white space that appears at the top of your Facebook page when you set your web browser to be identified as Internet Explorer 7, in order to hide the Timeline page layout. If you don't know what I am talking about, please refer to my blog post at http://www.endtimeprophecy.net/Blog/2011/12/28/major-uproar-in-facebook-community-over-timeline-page-layout/.

While I personally had stopped using F.B. Purity some time ago, I just installed it again in order to get rid of the aforementioned large white space at the top of my Facebook page. It does work as claimed, and I can now see my Facebook page properly using the original Facebook page layout, and not the confusing and unorganized Timeline page layout.

Let me clarify here that the tweak that Steve made to F.B. Purity does not remove, delete, or even hide the Timeline page layout. All it does is get rid of the white space at the top. In other words, in order to hide the Timeline page layout, you still need to follow the steps that I outline in the aforementioned blog post, and then install the F.B. Purity add-on for your particular web browser, in order to get rid of the white space at the top of the page.

As I have stated before, currently, there is no known actual way to really get rid of the Timeline page layout. All you can do is hide it by changing your user-agent to Internet Explorer 7 -- see the aforementioned blog post -- and then use F.B. Purity to fix the page layout. This strategy works for both Macintosh and Windows computers, and perhaps for other platforms as well.

Let me also remind you again that this web browser tweak with the user-agent -- and Steve's tweak to F.B. Purity -- is more than likely only a temporary fix. Sooner or later, the code gurus at Facebook will probably find a way to neutralize this fix, so that we are all forced to use and see Timeline, whether we like it or not. However, if push comes to shove, and Facebook pushes too hard, they may just find a lot of people jumping ship. Time will tell. Myself? It's a hard call to make at this time, because like many of you, I have a lot of time and energy invested into Facebook.

Major Uproar in Facebook Community Over Timeline Page Layout -- No Way to Remove or Delete It

In case you haven't become aware of it yet, at this present time there is quite an uproar in the Facebook community. This uproar -- which is growing as I write this -- revolves around the fact that many people are discovering that the assumed "temporary" trial of the new Facebook "Timeline" page layout is not so temporary after all.

While Timeline early adopters are being informed that they have a week to tweak the new page design to their liking before their Timeline will go public, what they are not being told is that once they hit the "Get It Now" button, there is apparently no going back to the former Facebook page layout. There is no way to remove or delete Timeline.

In other words, while Facebook users are being given a week to tweak their new Timeline, unless they choose to hit the "Publish" button beforehand, their new Timeline will be automatically published when the week expires, whether they like it or not. In my case, I was given until January 2nd.

Problems With Timeline Layout

The problem is that many people -- myself included -- are discovering that we don't like Timeline. We find it unorganized, confusing and difficult to use; and I am not a novice computer user. I have been a dedicated Macintosh user since 1990. Imagine the confusion that this issue is causing for new computer users and elderly people who struggle just to use a computer.

Personally, I have really tried to like Timeline since I took the plunge yesterday, but there are a few things about it which I really don't like. Primary among these is the way that it displays new posts from my self-hosted WordPress blog, which are syndicated to my Facebook page via Facebook's own Networked Blogs service.

With the original Facebook page layout, whenever a WordPress blog entry is posted to my wall by Networked Blogs, it is placed near the very top of my Facebook wall, which is where I want it to be. After all, it is my newest post. Not so with the new Timeline page layout. Aside from the fact that there is a delay in my new post being published on my Facebook wall -- which also often occurs with Networked Blogs as well -- the real problem is that new WordPress posts are not being published at the top of my Timeline as they should be, and as I want them to be. Rather, they are being published lower on the page.

I suspect that this oddity is due in part to something in Facebook's timeline algorithm. In other words, if I make a new post on my WordPress blog, between the time that I make it, and the time that it is actually published on my Facebook Timeline, if someone posts a comment on my Timeline, that comment will result in the whole post that they are responding to being moved higher up in the timeline, while my new WordPress entry will be lower in the Timeline.

I was hoping that Timeline's "Star" feature would give my syndicated WordPress blog entries more prominence, and possibly even move them higher up on the Timeline; however, that does not seem to be the case. In fact, even though I have moused around, I haven't even found a way to use the "Star" feature with my WordPress blog posts. It seems that the "Star" feature is only available for posts that you actually make in your Facebook status field.

That is not all. What some people will also find quite confusing -- I know that I did at first until I understood how the Timeline works -- is the way that posts zigzag back and forth, left to right, on the timeline, depending on when the post was made. To many people, it will come across as being both confusing and unorganized, compared to the original Facebook page layout where everything is linear from top to bottom.

Let me give you an example.

I made a post on my Facebook wall regarding the new page format, in which I asked my visitors for their opinions regarding the new Timeline layout. This was before I actually switched to Timeline. One of my friends came along and offered a response. However, instead of adding her comment to my original post, she used the status field at the top of the page instead. As a result, her comment was separate from my original post. The problem is that when I switched to the Timeline page layout, my original post was placed on the right side of the center timeline -- and lower on the page -- while her response was placed on the left side of the center timeline, and higher up on the page. In other words, in order to even know what she was responding to, you have to first find my original post in the lower right column, and then read her response in the upper left column. Now how confusing is that?

Responding to new message and comment notifications in the Facebook toolbar at the top of the page is equally as confusing. This is due in part to the fact that new messages and comments do not instantly appear on your Timeline. Sometimes there is a delay. I repeatedly found myself looking around on my Timeline, trying to figure out where the comment had been made of which I was being notified in the toolbar. I repeatedly had to wait a bit, and then refresh my browser page, to finally see it. It is easier to just click on the notification in the toolbar and see where it takes you. Again, it is confusing and fills one with uncertainty.

I also don't like the fact that Facebook intentionally reduced the quality of the nice "Cover" image that I made for my Timeline in Adobe Photoshop. Even though I made the image to the correct pixel dimensions -- 851 x 315 -- and optimized the image prior to uploading it, Facebook apparently still optimized it further, so that it contains a degree of pixelation, and looks crappy compared to the original image that I made.

These are just some of the reasons why I don't like Timeline, and why I prefer the original Facebook page layout; and apparently, quite a few other people feel exactly the same way. Other users are also seriously concerned regarding the apparently broken privacy mechanism that has been incorporated into Timeline. Some users are complaining that other people -- including complete strangers -- can see some of their older Facebook data from years ago, which even they -- the original Facebook poster -- cannot see.

No Way to Return to Original Facebook Page Layout

So, the bottom line is this: Because of these problems -- and others which I may not even be aware of -- many of us want our original Facebook page layout back, but there appears to be no way to do this; unless Facebook has simply decided to not tell us how to do it yet, because they hope that the storm will pass, and that we will all just quietly acquiesce to what they have dictated to us.

Quite frankly, I feel that the way that Facebook has introduced the new Timeline page layout, and enticed their users to switch over to it, is quite deceptive. They should make it very clear that once a user hits the "Get It Now" button, there is no one-week trial period with an option to return to the former page layout, as many of us have assumed, even though Facebook does not outright say this on their website.

That is the deceptive part. To my knowledge -- and I looked -- there is no obvious, public place on the Facebook site where they actually state that the one-week period is a test period, or a trial period. They just let us assume that is the case when we hit the "Get It Now" button. That approach is just plain wrong in my view. I have no doubt that if we end users knew ahead of time that there was no turning back, and that the change was permanent, many of us would not have clicked on the "Get It Now" button. No doubt, Facebook knows this too.

How to Hide -- Not Remove or Delete -- the Timeline Page Layout

Well, there is a small ray of hope -- at least temporary hope -- for those of you who don't like the new Timeline page layout, for whatever your reasons. While researching this problem, I discovered that there is a workaround which will hide Timeline from your web browser, so that you will only see the original Facebook page layout. Please understand, however, that this workaround does not actually remove or delete the Timeline page layout; it only conceals it for you, and it will only work for you, and not for other people who are visiting your Timeline; unless they likewise follow the same procedure that I am about to describe to you.

There is a web browser add-on called "User Agent Switcher". I am currently using it with Firefox 9.0b6 on a 27" iMac. I believe that there are versions of this add-on for other web browsers and platforms as well. What this add-on does is give you the option to tell Firefox to identify itself as another user agent, instead of as Firefox, when you visit websites, and click on links. It is really a developers tool, but it serves our purpose here.

Once you install this add-on, you need to set it so that Firefox will identify itself as "Internet Explorer 7" instead. No doubt, just mentioning Internet Explorer 7 will cause some red flags to go up in the Macintosh community. To allay any fears, the reason why you must select the "Internet Explorer 7" option is because, apparently, Internet Explorer 7 does not recognize the new Timeline code, and so your web browser displays the original Facebook page layout instead, which is what we all want to happen.

While I am not absolutely certain of this, it may be that when you use this add-on to tell your web browser to identify itself as Internet Explorer 7, Facebook may not even send the Timeline code to your web browser in response to your HTTP request.

So to reiterate, while some Macintosh users may have an aversion to all things Microsoft, and while it may seem strange to some of you to tell you to do this, yes, you must select "Internet Explorer 7" in the "User Agent Switcher" add-on, even if you are using a Macintosh computer.

Let me emphasize here that, to my knowledge, this add-on does not alter your web browser, or your computer, in any way. All it does is tell your web browser to identify itself as a different web browser when it sends an HTTP request to Facebook, or to any other website for that matter. On a side note, one other advantage of using this add-on is that it restores your ability to find new friends, which apparently is not possible with the Timeline page layout; at least I personally have not discovered it yet.

How to Set Up the User Agent Switcher Add-On in Firefox

1. If you are using Firefox 9.0, under the "Tools" menu in Firefox's menubar, you will see an option which says "Default User Agent" after  you have installed the add-on.

2. Mouse over the "Default User Agent" option to reveal the "Internet Explorer" option, and then select "Internet Explorer 7" in the submenu that appears.

3. That's it. Refresh your Facebook web page and the Timeline format will be gone.

A Temporary Solution and Other Options

Please note that the aforementioned procedure is only a temporary solution to this problem until Facebook decides to give us the option to return to the original Facebook page layout. Personally, I think that it is highly unlikely that they will ever do so, and this view appears to be the general consensus. Timeline appears to be a permanent change on Facebook which we will never be able to remove or delete. They may possibly tweak it a bit in order to meet some of our demands, but it is more than likely here to stay; at least until they dream up something newer at some point in the future.

It seems that the only other solution at this time is to abandon Facebook altogether in protest of their practices, and join some other social network. A number of dissatisfied Facebook users have already mentioned the possibility of doing this. In fact, ever since Google+ was introduced, there has been talk by some Facebook users of jumping ship.

Realistically-speaking, however, I sense that many people will not jump ship, because of the fact that they are already very heavily entrenched in Facebook, have invested a lot of time and energy into it, have made some wonderful friendships there, and are comfortable with using it. For these people, abandoning all of that may not be as appealing as going elsewhere and starting all over again. So, they will just grin and bear their current dissatisfaction with Timeline.

No doubt, Facebook realizes this as well, and that is the problem. They have no motivation to listen to their user base, unless that user base sends them a very strong signal. Right now, that signal is being generated by perhaps a few hundred vocal Facebook users at best who want to remove/delete the Timeline page layout, which is nothing compared to the millions of Facebook users worldwide.

A Few Caveats to This Temporary Solution

As I said, using the "User Agent Switcher" add-on is only a temporary solution. Don't be surprised if Facebook soon figures out a way to override this web browser identity trick. But if you do decide to use this add-on, please be aware that there are a few caveats to consider.

For example, if you use the "User Agent Switcher" add-on and set it to "Internet Explorer 7", it creates a large, empty white space at the top of Facebook pages. I assume that this is a formatting issue with Internet Explorer 7, although I am not absolutely certain of this, being as I am not a Windows user.

In other words, after activating the add-on and setting it to Internet Explorer 7, you will still see your profile image, menu options, and friends list in the left sidebar on the page where they should be; but in order to see your five-frame Facebook banner, personal info, status field and the actual entries on your wall, you will have to scroll down the page a bit. This is a small inconvenience, if you consider that it will hide Timeline from you.

The second caveat is that once you are done using Facebook, you need to remember to change the "User Agent Switcher" setting back to "Default User Agent", so that Firefox will once again identify itself as Firefox to websites; otherwise, web pages may display in an odd fashion for you, just as the Facebook page does.

For those of you who are using web browsers other than Firefox, you can find similar solutions on the following web page:

http://pureinfotech.com/2011/12/17/how-to-disable-facebook-timeline-temporary-workaround-trick/

Again, please be reminded that this web browser user agent trick only hides Timeline from you. It does not hide it from your page's visitors, or remove or delete it from your Facebook page. Visitors to your Facebook page will still see Timeline, unless they too have installed this add-on.

As a final note, let me also mention that in my attempts to try to circumvent having to use this add-on, I tried using seven other Macintosh-compatible web browsers, in order to determine if any of them would still display the original Facebook page layout on their own. In fact, I even tried Firefox 3.6.25 on my last working Macintosh PPC machine. In every case, and with every web browser, Timeline is displayed. So again, it clearly looks like Timeline is here to stay, unless there is a massive mutiny on the part of Facebook users worldwide. That is probably what it would take before Facebook would even consider giving us the option to return to the original Facebook page layout.

I wouldn't hold my breath.

The Sea and the Waves Roaring

In the Gospel of Luke, while describing the signs which would precede the destruction of Jerusalem, and His own Return, one of the things which Jesus said to His Disciples was the following:

"And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;"

Luke 21:25, KJV

As some of you will know, in the Book of Revelation, we are told that sometimes waters are used to symbolized people and nations. Consider this verse:

"And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues."

Revelation 17:15, KJV

Thus, I believe that in the previous verse that is found in the Gospel of Luke, Jesus may actually be referring to the great unrest which will occur amongst the peoples of the world in the years preceding His Return. Can anyone deny that we have already begun to witness this phenomena at our current time?

While I haven't said much lately in my blog regarding the situation around the world, anyone who has been keeping abreast of global news can quickly determine that the sea and the waves -- the masses -- have indeed been roaring, and roaring quite loudly in protest, as we experience this time of political and economic uncertainty all around the world.

From the economic downturn in the USA, to serious financial trouble in Europe, to massive protests against Vladimir Putin in Russia, to Bashar al-Assad's oppression of his people in Syria, to ongoing unrest in Egypt, to the rapid deterioration of the situation in Iraq, to political uncertainty in North Korea, to tensions growing between India and Pakistan, it seems that one crisis after another is shaking up the world, and this may just be the beginning of a period of great social upheaval.

Furthermore, while the affluent and the elite of the world enjoy their lives of luxury in their ivory towers, the gap between the haves and the have nots continues to grow wider with each passing year, as the poor continue to become poorer, with no relief in sight.

To add to this atmosphere of uncertainty, scientists have recognized that during the past few years, the Earth has experienced some record-breaking meteorological extremes, and Global Warming is being embraced as a reality by more and more people, including by previously skeptical politicians.

However, with recent events, it seems that we may have reached a point where the common people are no longer willing to tolerate the excesses of Big Business, the corruption of politicians, the greed of bankers, and the oppression of dictatorial leaders. They seem to be saying that enough is enough, and that they want real change, and not just deceptive, empty rhetoric. From the so-called Arab Spring, to unrest in Syria, to protests in Russia, to Occupy Wall Street, to the protests which have recently occurred in many other cities around the world, the desire for real change appears to be growing.

The problem is that the old guard -- the current power brokers of the world -- are very much entrenched in their ways, and they do not easily embrace change. For some of them, it seems to be easier to oppress their critics and opponents, rather than to embrace change, and this is worrisome.

While it would be nice to believe that national governments are going to have a change of heart, and are going to more earnestly dedicate themselves to the betterment of their people -- particularly the common people -- reality and history suggest a very different scenario. When people rise up in protest, national governments seem to have a propensity for resorting to oppression in one form or another, sooner or later. This oppression can manifest itself in the form of economic oppression -- so that people are kept busy just trying to figure out how to survive -- in the deterioration of civil rights and personal freedoms, and in other ways.

So if this current wave of global dissatisfaction continues to grow and expand, what can we expect? How will national governments react? Perhaps the real question that should be asked is how the behind-the-scenes power brokers will react, because they are the true power behind national governments and leaders who only serve as puppets at their whim.

It seems to me that these power brokers have already formulated their response, and that they devised a plan of action a long time ago. They have a vision for the world which can be spelled out in three simple words: One World Government, or New World Order. As such, I suspect that they will only allow the current social unrest to go so far, before they will begin to clamp down and take action. After all, control is the name of their game.

In fact, I believe that they have already begun preparing for that day. If we consider how much personal data is currently being collected by national governments, and being stored in databases who-knows-where, it is a bit unsettling, and we must ponder what they intend to do with all of this information. Think about it. If they know who you are, where you are, what you are doing, what your personal habits are, what your political views are, what your religious views are, what your personal weaknesses are, etc., you will be a lot easier to control when the time arrives and it becomes necessary. Resistance will be futile.

As I explain in a number of my articles, the Bible seems to predict that a time will arrive when just such an oppressive government will temporarily take over the world, and everyone -- rich and poor -- will be affected by it. Everyone will be forced to accede to its demands, if they expect to survive. Of course, we will be told by our Orwellian Big Brother that such stringent measures are necessary if we want the world to survive, and not spin totally out of control. Their reasoning will seem so logical, and many people will acquiesce to their oppressive system of identification and economic control, to their own damnation.

So the sea and the waves are indeed roaring now, and there is clearly "distress of nations", exactly as Jesus predicted would occur, and this anguish will only continue to grow worse, as God's Judgments begin to fall more heavily upon a world which has in large part rejected His Son.

While many people are becoming discontent with the current status quo and are demanding social and political change, the day may arrive when the situation will become so bad, and so oppressive, that they may actually look back at this current period of world history as "the good times".

Regardless of what happens here on the Earth in the affairs of men, as Bible-believing Christians, we need to remember that we are truly not of this world, and our Kingdom is not of this world. We are pilgrims in a strange land, and like our spiritual forefathers, we seek a much better place, a Heavenly Place, "wherein dwelleth righteousness". Consider the following verses:

"These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city."

Hebrews 11:13-16, KJV

"Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness."

2 Peter 3:13, KJV

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."

John 14:1-2, KJV

"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."

1 Corinthians 2:9, KJV

So keep the Heavenly Vision, and don't become too perturbed by what you see happening in the world. Everything serves a purpose, and in the end:

". . . we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

Romans 8:28, KJV

Should Christians Celebrate Christmas?

Santa Clause

As millions of Christians across the United States of America -- and in other nations as well -- prepare to observe the annual Christmas celebration, I would like to take the time to remind my readers that as a God-fearing, Bible-believing Christian, I personally do not celebrate Christmas in any way, and have not done so for quite a few years now. Furthermore, I do not use -- and in fact, detest -- the familiar phrase "Merry Christmas!". The phrase irks me to no end because of what it actually represents, and it has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus Christ.

While a number of Christians who are reading this will no doubt immediately react by accusing me of being a legalist -- after all, they have to try to justify their worldly compromise and their wayward position in their own eyes -- the truth of the matter is that there is absolutely no Biblical basis for this annual celebration, particularly when you throw in Santa Clause, Christmas trees, Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer and Frosty the Snowman.

Furthermore, it is a historical fact that for several hundred years following the birth of Jesus Christ, the Early Christians did not celebrate Christmas in any way, and there is no mandate to do so in the Bible. In fact, the Bible strongly suggests that Jesus Christ was not born anywhere near December 25th, despite what the world, and some Christian churches, will tell you. Are you also aware of the fact that there was a time when even the early God-fearing Christians of the United States did not celebrate Christmas either? Study your own history if you doubt my word!

"So then", you may be wondering, "How, where, when and why did the Christmas celebration begin?"

Very briefly, as I explain in such articles as "Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas?", "Our Pagan World -- The Easter (Ishtar Goddess) Myth Exposed!" and "The Seven Heads", to name a few, the truth of the matter is that the annual Christmas celebration is a worldly tradition of men which resulted from a serious compromise between the pagan Roman Empire -- beginning with Co-Emperors Constantine the Great and Licinius -- and the Christian bishops of the early Fourth Century.

As a result of the proclamation of the Edict of Milan in 313 AD, all religions were to be tolerated throughout the Roman Empire; and thus Christianity -- which had been heavily persecuted prior to that time -- became a "religio licita" or legal religion. In a way, it is somewhat similar to how many modern churches apply for tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of the United States. Only too late do some of them realize that once a deal is made with the government, compromise sets in, and preachers and churches are forced to tone down their message, and to not preach the full counsel of the Scriptures.

These Fourth Century bishops who compromised with the Roman Government were in fact the progenitors of what would eventually become the powerful Roman Catholic Church, and the Roman Catholic Church has compromised with the world ever since that time.

Through the so-called "Christianizing" of certain pagan beliefs and practices, these early Catholic "church fathers" began to spread their power and influence throughout the Roman Empire. Contrary to the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Apostles who plainly taught us that our Kingdom is not of this world -- please refer to my KJV Bible verse list entitled "Worldliness" -- these so-called "church fathers" went about establishing their own kingdom of wealth and power upon the Earth.

To give you a clear example of this compromise, the Roman festival of Saturnalia and the worship of the Winter Solstice -- which occurred towards the end of December -- and the worship of the false god Mithras -- which had attributes similar to God the Father and Jesus Christ -- were transformed into the annual Christmas celebration. The birth of Mithras became the birth of Jesus Christ, and the festival of the return of the Sun which brings warmth, light and life -- the Winter Solstice -- became the celebration of Christ, who is the Light of the World and the Giver of Eternal Life as well.

Let me remind you again that Jesus Christ was not born in the cold month of December, and the shepherds and flocks of Israel would most definitely not be out in the fields at night at that time of year, as the following verse reveals:

"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night."
Luke 2:8, KJV

To reiterate, Jewish shepherds simply do not abide in the field, with their grazing flocks, in the middle of the cold, dead winter, when there is nothing on the ground for their herds to eat. At the very least, the weather would have been very cold and very rainy on December 25th in the land of Israel. The flocks and the shepherds would have been indoors; at least in a cave or in a barn.

Today, many centuries later, the situation regarding the annual Christmas celebration has grown considerably worse. The level of commercialism which now pervades this holiday should be enough to anger and sicken any true God-fearing, Bible-believing Christian. It is bad enough that this fictitious celebration is based upon a lie concerning the birth date of Jesus Christ, but to go further and profit from it as well, irks me to no end.

These are just some of the reasons why I personally refuse to celebrate Christmas. It is why I even refuse to say "Merry Christmas!". For me to do so would be a denial of my faith. It would be promoting a lie. It would be saying that it is okay to profit from the birth of Jesus Christ -- even if the date is wrong -- and I for one just can't do that.

In summation, the annual Christmas celebration is a tradition of men which has no Biblical basis. The Early Christians did not celebrate it, and neither Jesus nor His original Apostles commanded us to do so anywhere in the New Testament. It is Christ's Death on the Cross, and His subsequent Resurrection from the Dead, which provides us with the hope of Forgiveness, Redemption, Salvation and Eternal Life. This is what we should be sharing with the world; and we can do it any time of year, and not just at Christmas time. We don't need to use a legal holiday as an excuse to preach Jesus Christ.

Furthermore, I seriously question the claim that is made by some Christians concerning nonbelievers being more receptive to the Gospel message during Christmas time. Are there any statistics which prove this point? Do more people accept Christ at Christmas time? Is it possible that this is just another excuse certain Christians use to try to justify their own compromise with the world?

In my view, churches and Christians who support Christmas in any way are promoting a false doctrine, a lie, and a deception. They are saying that it is okay to share silly fables concerning Santa Clause, Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer and Frosty the Snowman with gullible, impressionable, young children. They are compromising their faith. It is worldly foolishness which I will not support in any way.

In closing, let me leave you with the following Bible verses from the New Testament for your personal consideration:

"This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."
Matthew 15:8-9, KJV

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."
Colossians 2:8, KJV

"Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do."
1 Timothy 1:4, KJV

"But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness."
1 Timothy 4:7, KJV

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."
2 Timothy 4:3-4, KJV

"Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth."
Titus 1:14, KJV

"For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty."
2 Peter 1:16, KJV

How Socks the Cat Trained Me

Cat Paws Image

This is a repost of a blog entry that I originally made on July 21st. Being as some people enjoyed it -- and because the original version was lost due to the database corruption that I mentioned in a previous blog entry -- I have decided to post it again for your renewed enjoyment . . . with a bit of updated information, of course.

As I first mentioned a few weeks ago, I am happy to announce that Socks is now a full member of our family, and a "legal resident" of our home.

Who is Socks? Well, the story goes like this:

In June of this year, and against my wishes, my daughter arrived home one day with a young black and white cat, which I estimate to be approximately 6-9 months old. Without going into all of the details concerning why she brought the cat home, against my better judgment -- another expense on our already tight budget, smelly cat poop to clean up, cat hair all over the place, things scratched up by little claws, etc. -- I agreed to let Socks "board" with us for two weeks until she could be returned to her regular home.

Oh dread! . . . The cat was not litter box trained!

That first day there were two or three smelly accidents on the carpet . . . and you'll never guess who cleaned them up. Yes, that's right; me!

I gave my daughter an ultimatum: either the cat was litter box trained right quick, or it could not possibly remain with us. My daughter knew very little about cats at the time; so again, it fell upon me to do the deed . . . and I did. By day number two, Socks was fully litter box trained, and that was her salvation. Gosh . . . what cats will do under pressure! :)

Then came the realization that Socks also had fleas. Oh joy, oh bliss! Who doesn't enjoy giving a cat a flea bath! Never mind that cats are afraid of water and fearful of drowning, in spite of your words of comfort to them. The neighbors must have surely thought that we were torturing the cat, going by the pitiful sounds that were emanating from our apartment as I bathed her with flea shampoo . . . which I repeated a week later. Well, Socks survived both ordeals, and so did I, although I was rewarded with one long scratch wound on my right forearm, which has since healed quite well. So much for cat appreciation!

Aside from my aforementioned concerns, my other concern was the landlord. As a long-time tenant of almost twenty-three years, I knew their policy regarding having pets such as cats and dogs, and I informed my daughter of this from day number one. I made it clear to her that if they said that Socks had to go, then Socks simply had to go; period.

Well, the two-week "boarding" period came to an end, and my daughter informed me that it was no longer possible to return Socks to her former home, because they did not want her there. By this time, however, the relationship between Socks and I had changed considerably. As much as I love animals -- including cats -- in the beginning, I was determined to keep a respectable distance between the two of us, emotionally, and otherwise. I was not going to let Socks manipulate me with her pleadings and soft purrs. Nope; not me. I am the master, and she is the "temporary boarder", right?

Well, if you believe that, then you obviously don't realize what masterful psychologists and manipulators cats can be.

For example, whereas at the beginning of the two weeks I informed my daughter that Socks would be restricted to dry cat food and water alone -- and no expensive treats -- by the time the two weeks were up, Socks was enjoying special treats such as canned tuna, lean white chicken breast, and even yogurt which she seems to like, by my hand! Furthermore, with my slow consent, she has even violated the hard fast rule of not going on my bed, and much less sleeping there. In fact, now I invite her to sleep there as often as she likes!

In a word, Socks the cat now has full run of the house . . . and I do mean the ENTIRE house! She sleeps wherever she wants. She prances all over my computer desk, making it difficult for me to work. She has finally figured out how to jump from the step ladder, over to the kitchen table, then to the washing machine, then to the sink counter, and finally to the counter where we prepare our food. Little schemer! :)

But that is not all. Dear Socks helps herself to water from my Malawi cichlid aquarium whenever she feels like it . . . and probably schemes and dreams about how she will catch one of my fish one of these days. She wakes me up at odd hours of the night when her food is low, or when she feels lonely and just wants some affection. Do I really need to tell you how much she thoroughly enjoys long head, neck and throat rubs? My gosh . . . she is like a little love-starved child! :)

But guess what? After I spend my time affectionately scratching her head in all the right places, and talking to her softly, she decides, "Okay, that's it, we're done;" . . . and then she prances off just like the aloof, independent cat that she tends to be. Not a word -- or meow -- of thanks. It is as if she views my scratching her head as a part of my official duty to her. Spoiled little princess! :)

So let's be honest here, shall we? In case you haven't figured it out yet, Socks has trained me well, and she has the "master" wrapped around her little paw!

Boy, I am certainly glad that I have kept that darn cat in line and showed her who is the boss! I have dominated her! Not! :)

Being the animal lover that I am, and not having the heart to take Socks to the local pound where she might end up being put to sleep, or to the pet store, and no longer wanting her to return her former home, even if she could, I made a call to our landlord and informed him that I had to talk to him. He came over one day to finish installing a new screen door on our apartment, which gave me the opportunity to tell him about Socks. There really wasn't any need to say much after Socks made her grand appearance in order to investigate what they were doing to her new apartment. I hope that she was satisfied with the work.

A couple of decades my junior, our landlord is a rather laid-back guy, and we have a good rapport. After informing him of how Socks came to be with us, he joked around a bit, as is his nature, and then he informed me that he doesn't have a problem with us keeping Socks, to my relief. In fact, he even mentioned how Socks can keep me company; which is indeed true, being as my daughter is away from the house a lot. As I said earlier, over the past six weeks or so, Socks and I have grown rather close . . . or maybe it is all just in my head. I am wondering if I am the only one who has made an emotional investment here, and this sly cat is just leading me on. Whatever the case may be, I intend to give her a very good life, however long that may be.

So once again, that is the story of how Socks became a full member of our family, and a legal resident of our home.

Oh, and by the way; I think that it is time that I confess that I didn't really litter box train Socks. I just think that being the manipulator that she is, she made the shrewd determination that if she gave me a little cooperation by acquiescing to the litter box thing, she could advance her own plans of moving in permanently. Apparently it worked, because now she is not going anywhere! She is now MY cat, despite protestations from my daughter! :)

I hope that you have enjoyed this short story, and perhaps even found it a bit amusing. I had fun writing it. Please feel free to share your comments below.
