Dear friends, since I first began speaking out about and writing about the current COVID-19 pandemic just over a week ago, I have been told that I am overreacting and being too serious. Some people have mocked me. Some people have deleted my comments. At least one person has blocked me. Another person has accused me of being a religious Pharisee. Sadly, some of the people who have done these things are my own Christian brethren. To those people who are behaving in this manner, I say the following:
Am I truly a religious Pharisee as you falsely claim? Or am I one who is in tune enough to the Spirit to simply see what God is doing, and will continue to do, through the current COVID-19 pandemic? Am I truly a religious Pharisee, or am I simply concerned enough, and love my Christian brethren enough, to warn them of the folly they commit by continuing to joke about the current situation regarding the growing pandemic which has now touched the entire world?
One thing I have come to suspect is that through this current global scourge, sooner or later, one by one, God will eventually silence all of the mockers and fools. Their tongues and voices will be stopped, once they truly realize how serious this is, and come to understand that COVID-19 is a global chastisement from the Lord for our many sins. And, yes, we ALL have sins in our lives, from the greatest to the least. Only you know what they are in your particular life. You may not believe it now; you can crack your insensitive jokes now; you can continue to mock those of us who try to tell you the truth; but if I am right, you may not be laughing for much longer as the coronavirus continues to sweep the world, and begins to take the lives of some of your loved ones. Will you let it come to that? Will God have to continue to apply the pressure until you wake up and repent of your sins and unbelief?
I most certainly do not pray for this to happen to anyone. After all, as I explain in my three-part series “Coronavirus: Just the Facts, Ma’am”, God does not wish to destroy us. He wishes for us to come to our senses and repent, so that He can save us. In fact, the Scriptures inform us that it pains Him to have to chastise us. As the Apostle Paul stated to the Athenians in Acts chapter seventeen:
“And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.”
Acts 17:30-31, KJV
So God’s reaction, and the degree of His chastisements, depends a lot on our reaction to His chastisements. So what will you do? Will you humble yourself before Him and repent of your sins as in this verse?:
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14, KJV
For those of my Christian brethren who have acted in this fashion, I say this: How long will you continue to act in such a worldly, fleshly manner? Are we not called to be different from the world? That is, to be holy, set apart and sanctified to a greater purpose? How can you claim to do so when you act just like the children of the world? Please carefully study the following Bible resources:
